The six of you move as one group, flashlights lighting the area in a white-yellow light while a purple light, aqua light, and blue light illuminate other areas.
"No, no," Onyx says. "You don't need lights. Look!"
She points up to the sky directly overhead. You all look up and see a GIANT moon dead center in the sky!
"Wow..." Flashfire says as she dims her bolt. "It's beautiful..."
"That is Shadow's glorious Moon-Star," Onyx says, "the center of our planetary system. Since it is up in the middle of the sky, that means it is already the halfway point in the day here."
The six of you continue onward, the moonlight and Onyx's hair-light lighting your path.
You notice that Onyx isn't wearing shoes, only white socks.
"Onyx, why aren't you wearing shoes?"
"When it is Darkness--the half of the day when the Moon-Star is on the other side of the planet--our hair-light is our only light. My hair-light may have lit up Boit's hallways well, but that's because it had moonlight to power it up. Here on Shadow, there are large areas of the forests that can be completely blocked from moon and starlight, and our hair-light is weakened. We Shadowans have learned to navigate by feeling the terrain and figuring our location based on what is under our feet. Thickly-woven socks like these allow us to feel the ground without it hurting us, such as in the case of sharp little rocks."
With those white socks on, her feet look really cute. And you aren't one who usually thinks of feet as cute.
The group comes to a fork in the path. In the moonlight, you can tell one way goes up to a mountain while another goes to a lake.
"Hey, let's go to the lake," you say.
"Ooo~!" Blackfire cooes. "I've always wanted to take a moonlit swim."
Blackfire leads you by the hand, and Onyx stays close. The others follow after.
"I recognize this this lake," Onyx says. "It is known as The Liquid Mirror because it reflects the sky perfectly."
And it did. The stars shined as brightly in the water of the lake as they did in the sky.
Blackfire and the girls immediately strip down to underwear (or less, in a few girls' cases) and run into the water, laughing and splashing.
"Let's play a game!" Nuh says.
"Yeah," Foxy says. "Like Garbo Nopo!" (Just like Marco Polo, but aliens don't know who he is, so...)
"Come on, Saffire!" Blackfire calls. "Play Garbo Nopo with us!"
